“The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and cried

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away

I’ll always love you and make you happy
If you will only say the same
But if you leave me to love another
You’ll regret it all someday

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away”

Baba always sang this song. And the chorus was in the children’s book I read Arrine tonight at Grandma Karen’s. And when I looked up the lyrics afterwards I was reminded of the heaviness of this song.

While reading/singing this song to Arrine tonight, I was teary. Even before being reminded of the full meaning.
