So I have been very bad at being on time for posting about significant Metis events this past year. The first event I missed was Back to Batoche Days 2010, which marked the 125th anniversary of the Riel Rebellion. I look forward to years when I can take Arrine to Batoche and share with her the stories that amm and Grandma ‘Leen passed onto me. The significance of the area, the graveyard and how deeply connected we are to it and of course, Gabriel’s Crossing.
And November 16 marked the anniversary of the death of Louis Riel. There is a ceremony held at the Alberta Legislature that I have been able to attend. I know that if amm were here living in Edmonton, it would be an event that we would surely attend together.
